When we think back on Leila and Cole’s wedding, held on a misty April day at the stunning Holualoa Inn, we can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for having been part of such a heartfelt celebration. Their day was a perfect blend of tradition, culture, and love—a true testament to who they are as a couple.
Leila, a Big Island native, and Cole, a Texan, brought together their worlds in a way that honored their roots while embracing the beauty of their shared life together. From the very beginning, their love story was woven into every detail. Cole proposed to Leila in Pololū Valley, a place of immense beauty and deep personal significance for Leila, and it was clear that their wedding day would hold just as much meaning.
Before the ceremony, Leila and Cole exchanged private vows, an intimate moment that set the tone for their deeply personal day. Surrounded by the misty greenery of Holualoa, it felt as though the island itself had wrapped them in its embrace, blessing their union.
Their ceremony, officiated by Liz Stapleton, a well-known local officiant, who also happens to be a family member, was both heartfelt and uniquely personal. Liz’s presence as a guest added an extra layer of warmth, creating a sense of unity and connection that radiated through the gathering. Accompanied by the soft, melodic sounds of Hawaiian musicians Keoni Thompson and Pomai Brown, the ceremony was a poignant celebration of love and heritage.
Leila and Cole’s reception was a breathtaking love letter to the Big Island. Chef Dan Robayo curated a six-course farm-to-table menu that celebrated the island’s abundance of produce, fish, and meats. Each dish was a work of art, thoughtfully paired with wine selected by Leila’s grandfather, a true connoisseur.
The dinner was more than just a meal—it was an experience. Between each course, guests were treated to toasts and performances, creating a sense of intimacy and celebration that felt uniquely Leila and Cole.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the evening was when Leila, as is traditional for Hawaiian brides, performed a hula for Cole. Joined by her cousins, her graceful movements told a story of love and devotion. Later, her family surprised everyone with a fiery, electrifying fire knife dance accompanied by drummers—a thrilling nod to their island roots.
Every detail of the wedding reflected Leila and Cole’s thoughtfulness and connection to the Big Island. The night before the wedding, family and friends gathered to make lei for the guests (with flowers they gathered themselves), an act of love that set the tone for the whole celebration. On the wedding day, the prayer before dinner, delivered in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi by ‘Ihia Peʻa, was a deeply moving moment that honored the spiritual connection to the land and culture.
The theme of the wedding, a soft romantic Hawaiian garden, was perfectly complemented by the misty weather of Holualoa. The lush greenery and gentle fog created an ethereal atmosphere, as though the heavens themselves were celebrating alongside the couple.
Spirited Cocktail provided signature drinks that were as delightful as they were refreshing. The Lilikoi Mule and Salted Coconut Mai Tai were instant favorites, capturing the flavors of the island in every sip. Meanwhile, Keoni Thompson and Pomai Brown continued to serenade guests with beautiful Hawaiian-style music, weaving a gentle soundtrack of love and aloha throughout the evening.
Leila and Cole’s wedding was a testament to their love for each other, their families, and the Big Island. It was a day steeped in tradition, rich in culture, and brimming with joy. We feel so honored to have been a part of it and to have witnessed a love as deep and boundless as theirs.
To Leila and Cole, thank you for trusting us with your vision. Your wedding was a dream come true, not just for you but for everyone who had the privilege of being there. May your journey together continue to be filled with love, laughter, and the spirit of aloha.
