We aren’t aspiring to be humble. We know we’re the best Big Island wedding planners out there—and soon, you will too.
Our company has evolved over the years, beginning as a small venue on a Kona coffee farm and eventually growing into what you know today as Sunshower Weddings.
From the beginning, we’ve always championed the highest level of care for our clients and we’re thrilled to be able to serve so many more couples as we’ve grown, all while maintaining the same values, beliefs, and unmatched level of attention and communication.
TLDR; When you work with us, you’ll always feel like a priority. Promise.
“Kate and the Sunshower team were amazing at making our wedding vision a reality! I started wedding planning completely clueless but they got my ideas organized while still allowing us to dream big. It was truly a dream come true we couldn’t be happier with how our wedding turned out.”
Here’s the deal: we’re (mostly) non-native residents of Hawai'i on native land and our approach to wedding planning includes uplifting Hawaiian and other historically marginalized business owners—especially wedding vendors. We’re also champions of inclusivity, women’s rights, science, accessibility, and sustainability. And we’re committed to supporting couples who feel the same.
You can trust us to be open about literally everything—our views and beliefs, services, pricing, recommendations, and everything in between. So, even if you’re working with us from across the ocean, you can feel confident. We also do not take vendor commissions so that you can trust our recommendations to be 100% genuine.
Around here, we always make sure everyone feels welcomed and valued (unless you proudly wear a MAGA hat … then you can see yourself out). So no matter who you’re marrying, as long as you’re happy and in love, we’re here to plan you one hell of a Big Island wedding.
Feminism runs deep on the Sunshower team. We believe in a woman’s right to choose, and the value of women’s contributions—in essence, women rock, and we’re committed to helping other women business owners to succeed and live the lives they want.
Venue manager - a good one will make your planning experience so much better! And then if something happens on the day of the wedding (power goes out, bathroom clogs etc.), a great venue manager will save the day! They are the unsung heroes more than you know!
Think about all the weddings you've attended and what you remember from those weddings. Can you remember the chair? The card stock weight from the invitation? The color of the flatware? If you cant - your guests probably will not be able to remember either. People remember how you make them feel. Make sure your wedding centers on the experience of you AND your guests and that it is not rushed, no long lines, plenty of food and drinks etc. and don’t sweat the other stuff.
Ugh anything patriarchal. Any ceremony that treats women like property to be transferred from their dad to their husband. Literal barf 🤮.
The last dance! I love everyone being so sweaty, usually slightly drunk, and just so so so happy being together. It is bittersweet and so full of love.
Working with lawyers! I just “get” them. So many other planners think lawyers are argumentative and difficult, but they are my kindred spirits. Also, anyone who says “Kate, I don’t care, just make it look nice.” Literally, say no more—that is my dream.

As a former environmental lawyer turned kickass wedding planner, Kate brings a unique blend of creativity and organization to every event. After starting a wedding venue on her Kona coffee farm, she discovered her true calling: crafting unforgettable weddings.
Furniture & lighting rentals - literally the skeleton of your wedding day is in the furniture rentals and lighting which creates the ambiance. So many times they quietly save the day without you really knowing!
Lean on the expertise of the planners and vendors if there are decisions about things that you either are unsure of or don't care too much about. Everyone we work with on our team and on our vendor list truly are invested in making this the BEST day of your life and we are all here to make sure you have the best experience, so lean into that!
Worrying about the rain. The rain is magical when it happens so there is nothing to worry about.
The love and connection and love story. I LOVE love and hearing the love stories and witnessing the heart felt vows really reminds me of what this is all about and I just can't get enough of that.

Alison is a fun and experienced wedding planner with an interesting educational background. She holds a Masters in Public Health Nutrition and a BA in Anthropology & Spanish, reflecting her deep-rooted interest in health, culture, and human connection.
Make all of your wedding to-do’s into dates with your partner! When I was planning my wedding, I did a cake tasting picnic at our venue, we had a wine night choosing music for our playlists, etc. and it made all of those small tasks a lot less daunting.
It’s sweet to get to know couples during the process and then on their day to be surrounded by the people who know and love them most. I love supporting the couple's vision and being the go-to person for not just them but also their loved ones. It is an honor to get invited into their inner circle for such an important milestone.
Mean and/or embarrassing toasts given by family or friends—nothing makes me cringe harder!
I love a cute first look so the couple can see each other and get some of the jitters out before walking down the aisle - also helps move photos along so you can get on with enjoying your wedding.

Hair and makeup artists are often the first vendors you interact with on your day, and good ones know how to bring the best energy!
How a wedding FEELS for the couple and their guests is just as important on how a wedding looks.
When the couple feels obligated to incorporate wedding components they clearly don’t want to based on tradition or expectation of others.
Being there for all the small but meaningful moments that happen behind the scenes throughout the day. There is something special about bearing witness to all the significant exchanges between not only the couple but also their family/loved ones. I also love heartfelt speeches and of course the dance parties!!

That’s right—anything. We’ve got plans from A to Z, so just know that we’re always thinking and planning ahead. Whatever comes our way during your planning journey or on the wedding day, you won’t have to worry about one thing. We’ll take care of you and create a day that feels like magic.
We’ve dealt with last-minute venue closures and cancellations, torrential downpours (which is when our “rain arsenal” that we keep in the van comes in handy), non-recommended vendors failing to show up, and even literal lava that has blocked access to our couples’ venue. The moral of the story? We were not only able to handle, but improve, our couples’ wedding day experiences because we’ve got just about every trick in the book (and a dedicated list of vendors) in our back pockets.
“Many times over we have heard this exact sentiment from our wedding guests. Sunshower helped us work through every detail, big and little, and thought through every element. Throughout every step in the process, we felt heard, seen, inspired, and confident that we were in the best possible hands.”
